"I first started using Tom last year to help relieve back pain, he has been extremely helpful and now he's supporting me with sprint and fitness training, whilst helping with any minor injuries. Can't recommend him and his team more highly."

"I went to Tom with a shoulder injury that had not improved for several months. Tom is very knowledgeable and quickly identified the issue and put me on a course of exercises that, in conjunction with a couple more sessions, steadily resolved the problem. I would highly recommend him."

Elite-sport rigour
for every client.

Tom Astley Physiotherapy was founded in 2015 by Tom Astley — BSc Physiotherapy (Coventry, 2008), BSc Health, Exercise & Sport (UWIC, 2005), with 14 years of MSK and Sports Medicine clinical-director experience. The practice runs across 4 clinics — Crouch End (the original site at Park Road Pools), Hampstead (opened December 2025), UNTIL Marylebone (105 Wigmore Street), and Henley-on-Thames (Badgemore Park Golf Club) — with a 5-clinician team rotating across them.

Our team has delivered physiotherapy at 6 major multi-sport events including London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, Baku 2015 European Games, and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, plus elite club and national-team work with GB Bobsleigh, England Lacrosse, NSL Netball, Crystal Palace FC, and the British Tennis performance team. We bring that same level of rigour — return-to-sport testing, biomechanical assessment, evidence-based loading — to every amateur, recreational, and post-surgical case that comes through the door.

We are recognised by 5 of the major UK private medical insurers — Bupa, Cigna, Vitality, WPA, and Simply Health. Self-funded patients book directly via Splose without a GP referral. Treatment combines manual therapy, progressive exercise rehabilitation through Track Rehab, and modality-specific tools where appropriate (Lika Vario Pro shockwave for tendinopathy with about 80 % response after 3 to 4 sessions; DorsaVi-assisted gait analysis for runners). Each case has a written treatment plan, measurable benchmarks, and an honest discharge timeline.

Your journey,
step by step

Initial Assessment

A 60-minute first appointment covering history, current symptoms, training or work load, and full musculoskeletal examination. We arrive at a working diagnosis and treatment plan you understand before you leave the room.

Treatment & Loading

Manual therapy combined with progressive exercise rehabilitation, plus modality-specific tools where indicated (shockwave, dry needling, soft-tissue therapy, gait analysis). You leave with a written summary and a Track Rehab home-exercise programme.

Reassessment & Return

Each follow-up reassesses against your baseline measures. For sport returners we use objective return-to-sport criteria (≥90 % limb symmetry, sport-specific drills, psychological readiness). Discharge happens when you have the tools to manage independently — not when symptoms first ease.

Common
questions

Do I need a GP referral to book physiotherapy?

No. UK physiotherapists are first-contact practitioners — you can book a private appointment directly via the Splose booking page or by calling 0333 121 6 121. If you are using private health insurance, your provider may require a GP referral; check your policy. Self-funded patients never need a referral to see us.

Which insurers do you accept?

We are recognised by 5 of the major UK health insurers — Bupa, Cigna, Vitality, WPA, and Simply Health. Your appointment can be paid through your insurer with prior authorisation; please obtain this before booking. We can also issue receipts for self-funded claims, and our reception team will help you submit them where useful.

How many sessions will I need?

Most acute injuries resolve within 3 to 6 sessions over 4 to 8 weeks. Chronic conditions — long-standing low back pain, recurring tendinopathy, post-surgical rehab — typically need 6 to 12 sessions. We discuss a realistic course of treatment at your first appointment and reassess at every visit. We are not interested in selling sessions you do not need.

Where are your clinics?

We have four clinics: Crouch End (Park Road Pools & Fitness, N8 8JN — the original location with parking), Hampstead (32 Gordon House Road, Unit 19, NW5 1LR — opened December 2025), UNTIL Marylebone (105 Wigmore Street, W1U 1QY), and Henley-on-Thames (Badgemore Park Golf Club, RG9 4NR). Same clinical team rotates across all sites — book whichever location works best for your day.

Do you treat athletes specifically?

Yes — and we bring elite-sport methodology to every patient, athlete or not. Our team has delivered physiotherapy at 6 major multi-sport events from London 2012 to Gold Coast 2018, plus elite club work with GB Bobsleigh, England Lacrosse, NSL Netball, Crystal Palace FC, and the British Tennis performance team. We use the same return-to-sport testing for amateur runners and weekend footballers as we use for professional athletes.

What technology do you use?

Treatment combines hands-on physiotherapy with the Lika Vario Pro shockwave device for chronic tendinopathies (Achilles, patellar, plantar fascia, elbow), DorsaVi sensor-based gait analysis for runners, and Track Rehab for video-led home-exercise programmes. Each tool is integrated into the wider clinical plan rather than offered as a stand-alone service.
